Donations to the face bank were running way below projections, and Throckmorton Killebrew, himself, was on his way down from Washington to check on things firsthand. Word was he was loaded for bear. The whole department was jumpy as hell, but it was Stanley who was in the line of fire --- good old, dependable Stanley Bumpus. It was Stanley who had run the [ ] campaign way back in the early days of the transplant program. For that alone, the man was a legend. He had taken what was, let's face it, a revolting proposition and made it seem like every American's duty, an honor, even.
